HISTORY
In 1987 the league gained sponsorship by Slazenger and became known as The Slazenger Chippenham and District Tennis League. This sponsorship enabled member clubs to receive discounted tennis balls and the league to strengthen its finances. The local firm of Solicitors Morris, Goddard and Ward took over sponsorship of the League from 1998; this sponsorship was achieved through the work of their partner Francis Goddard of the Seend Club and the league became known as the Chippenham and District Tennis League, sponsored by Morris Goddard & Ward and continued until 2001. Gillmans Carpets Flooring & Blinds became sponsors in 2002, Terry Gillman being a player from White Horse. Sponsorship of the KO Cup commenced with Nortree Motors proprietors being Glyn & Malcolm Phillips again players in the League moving to Andy Fletcher UPVc specialists and Shoestrings/Buckles before the present sponsor Baron Martin Associates. Sponsorship of the KO Plate instigated with Chantry Digital managed by the son of Jeannette Ford with Sponsorship of the Club Representative of the Year by Gordon Russell well known for his sports trophy engraving. In 2007 the main sponsorship was taken over by City Fitness, Melksham, then by CS Property in 2008 and in 2010 by Kavanaghs Estate Agents.
In 1989 an annual challenge match for Mens and Ladies teams between the Chippenham and District and Swindon & District Tennis Leagues was instigated. This arose from discussions between the respective league Chairmen (John Ford and Ralph Harding) following Ralph Harding's attendance at our 1988 end-of -season League presentation event.
