Chairman’s Remarks at the beginning of our 58th Season

I continue to play most of my tennis indoors at Swindon twice weekly but have rejoined Melksham and offered my services to fill in for their Mens' Team, if required. With the redevelopment of Melksham House into a Sports & Social Campus by Wiltshire Council being further delayed, Eddy Watts has negotiated a temporary move for Melksham from the unreliable natural grass to new artificial grass courts at River Mead school to tide things over for 2018. Iconoclasts, who have entered a second Mens' Team, are moving from Alice Park to the clay courts at Bath University.

I continue to play most of my tennis indoors at Swindon twice weekly but managed to contribute a few sets to Melksham Mens success noted above, of which I know that League Match Secretary Eddy Watts is very proud, as he is also Melksham's Club Secretary and mostly non-playing Mens Captain. With the redevelopment of Melksham House into a Sports & Social Campus by Wiltshire Council being further delayed, Eddy has negotiated a temporary move for Melksham from the unreliable natural grass to new artificial grass courts at River Mead school to tide things over for 2018.

I was unable to chair the AGM this year being absent Down Under visiting my Son's family in Sydney – I was fortunate to be able to attend the Australian Open at Melbourne for an evening session, so different from Wimbledon & Roland Garros. How the players cope with competing in temperatures above 40 C I just don't know – I start to “wilt” at 30 C but then I come from Wiltshire and am not one of the “summer set “ !!

I hope to see at least some of you this season – enjoy your tennis.
